IP protection in Tanzania has moved on substantially in the last ten years. Registration is faster, the registries are more responsive, and contentious work (particularly around trademark infringement and licensing disputes) is finding more sophisticated treatment in the Commercial Division.
Where new entrants underestimate the work is in maintenance. A registered mark is the floor; a defensible mark is one that is renewed on time, monitored against confusingly similar applications, and enforced consistently against bad-faith filings before they harden into prior use.
